Licensed Professional Counselor

"I've tried numerous therapists, but never fully opened up. It took me 4 sessions and I knew I was finally in the right office. I knew I wouldn't be judged for my problems or decisions. I knew I would finally be able to solve my problems."
28 year-old female
Rebecca Gaines is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who works with families and individuals of all ages through her private practice in Columbus, Ohio. While she specializes in mood disorders, eating disorders, and family conflict in adolescents and young adults, her ability to acutely discern individual symptoms and presenting problems enables her to work with a variety of clients in different situations and life scenarios.
Rebecca’s goal is to provide a comfortable space for her clients to speak openly about their hopes, fears and expectations for the future. In working through these issues, she equips her clients with the tools necessary to cope with life’s obstacles and move forward with a clear path toward their goals. Rebecca’s involvement with a collaborative network of colleagues across a wide range of professions, further ensures her clients have access to the best care and variety of services possible.
Rebecca began her career as a therapist specializing in sport and performance, as well as body image, for middle, high school, and college aged individuals. Rebecca was a four time All-Region and Most Valuable Offensive Player in field hockey and member of the varsity basketball team at DePauw University. She ultimately left basketball to play for a field hockey team in London, England. Her accomplishments as a student and athlete, along with her strong interpersonal skills, opened the door to a full scholarship to a CACREP graduate program in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling and a field hockey coaching position at her Alma Mater, DePauw University.
As a therapist at DePauw University, Rebecca was the liaison to the student services and athletic departments on campus. She co-facilitated the beginning of a body image talk and support group, and spoke frequently to groups on campus about what depression and anxiety can look like to college students. A highlight of her experience includes the mentorship of Dr. Todd Kayes, author of Sports Psychology for Dummies and former Ohio State University student athlete therapist. His experience offered Rebecca exposure to a wide variety of challenges and issues facing adolescents and young adults, which she still draws on today.
Actively involved in the communities in which she works, Rebecca is a partner at The Life Solution Center of Darien, a regular contributor and sports psychology consultant for Varsity Parenting: Raising a Stronger, Smarter, Safer Student Athlete, and a member of the American Counseling Society and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She works along a team of other professionals whom specialize in eating disorders planning meal support for various clients. She has given talks about healthy living, body image, and managing anxiety and depression for the Hospital of Special Surgery in New York City, The Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Specialists of Greenwich, CT, and The Cardinal Orthopedic Institute in Columbus, OH, The Ohio State University program CHAARG, as well as to multiple schools in Connecticut and Ohio.
Rebecca’s ability to help individuals perform at their desired peak is of importance, but seeing the client apply the learned skills to all walks of life is what ignites her passion to continue learning, working and helping others.
